Question by jenni forbes!: Prom dress help?
There's a certain type of dress I want to wear to prom, I believe the style of the dress is called a "bubble dress". I found one online on davids bridal, and it's perfect, the thing is, it's too expensive. Here's a picture:

Can someone help me with what stores have those types of dress for cheaper, like less than $ 100?

Question by pleaseandthankyou: Prom dress question?
I bought a really cute Jackie O style Calvin Klein shift dress. It's off white with funky polka dot-ish lace and a taupe band with beading at the empire waist. (Sorry, I don't have a pic) It fits really well.
Do you think I can wear this to my Junior Prom? I'm not sure if it's "prommy" enough. At my school, JProm is more casual and you are supposed to wear "cocktail dresses"

Question by Luv 311!: Please help, trying to sew a prom dress...fabric patterns?
Ok, on Butterick's site, I'm picking the B5182 pattern, and Dress "A"-the gold one. I'm a beginner in terms of sewing. I'm a size 1 in regards to dress/pant size. Can anyone help me try to understand that chart they have? With the 45'' and 60'' things? And oh, what is a "nap"? Any advice is great. Thanks! Prom is in 2 months btw

See my answer in the "hobbies" section. I'm really concerned you're in over your head unless you've got some good local expertise or you're having someone else sew this dress.

If you have sewn other projects, what were they? And what sorts of fabrics? The combination of chiffon overlay and bias cut is going to be tricky, even for someone with experience. I'm also guessing this will need major pattern adjustments because of your small size.

The purple one may be a bit too casual but I think the gold one is good, especially with it having that bow, but my mom says it's not dressy enough for prom.

I know the gold one isn't what you typically think of with a "prom dress", but the prom I'm going to isn't my prom (going with a friend to his...) and I'd feel quite ridiculous going there in something dressier than that.
