My girlfriend's prom dress is kinda like her "princess dress." It has a poofy bottom of net material, but the main torso is silk material. It does have shoulders. The colors are a cyan/teal and darker gold. I am deciding what style/color tux jacket to wear, (leaning on black w/shawl lapel), and what type/color tie to wear. Lastly, cummerbund or vest? i think you should try to match the darker gold color in her dress...that way you will complement her and not match her exactly. and i would go with the vest for sure!!! Oh ya, stick with the classic black tux you were speaking of:)

Hmm…well you could take certain colors from her dress and accent your attire with that color. Personally, I find a gold tie tacky, so you could maybe find a bluish tie? If that doesn’t work out, the flower you pin to your suit jacket could be in a bluish color. Making your cummerbund or vest the same color as her dress could be a little bit too matchy, but in some instances it could work. The best thing to do is take her with you when you go out looking for things or ask her for an opinion. Make sure you try on your attire together.
you need a black tux with a yellow or light orange tie.
if her dress is blue with orange accents, then your accents need to match.
and blue and orange are complimentary colors.
